Without referees there are no soccer games!

Referees are contractors of the US Soccer Federation.  Class 8 referees are now referred to as Grassroots Referees.  Referees are required in order for Montana to have a competitive soccer league program. Each team of a club within the Montana Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) is required to have at least 1 certified referee per team registered for a particular season. Referees are paid by MYSA through direct deposit following completion of each game day. There are lots of opportunities for referees!!

FC Frenchtown will pay initial and recurring referee training fees for required club referees (2 per registered team); additional referees will be refunded training fees if funds are available.  Referees must actually be a referee for 4 games during the Spring, or applicable play season, to receive training refunds.  Referees must be 13 years of age and older and must complete all USSF requirements, to include a $30 background check paid by the volunteer.

Referees are also required for recreational league games, as they ensure the Laws of the Game are followed and ensure player safety.  Our U5 - U12 games are perfect for getting hands on referee training in preparation for certification, or refining those skills as a certified referee! Recreational games may or may not provide pay for referees.

Refereeing for FC Frenchtown and Montana Youth Soccer Association

FC Frenchtown is a non-profit organization that was established in 2018 by Frenchtown Community volunteers. The goal of FC Frenchtown is to better our youth to the next level of play in competitive and recreational soccer. One approach that is used to cater to Frenchtown youth and their families is practice locations at Frenchtown and lower player fees. In order to keep these player fees down, we gather sponsorships, participate in fundraising, and ask for volunteers to fill board positions, committees, team managers, coaches, and referees. With the help of referee education, we promise you will become an essential part of providing an excellent experience for the players/teams at any competitive or recreational soccer event.

Our goal is to have two referees per competitive team; one referee per team is mandatory.  Team referees are not mandatory for recreational teams; however, a referee is required at the games (this may be a coach).

You will be a leader for our community youth; providing a safe environment in which youth compete and further learn and develop soccer skills. You will teach proper sportsmanship, respect, and compliance with rules of the game - skills that are essential for our youth as they become young adults. Set the example, Lead by example!

A rewarding experience for not only you, but for the youth that you referee!

Training

We do strive to educate our referees to the best of our ability using web resources and web training and on-site training provided by Montana Youth Soccer Association. Mandatory Referees will be refunded pay for initial training or recurring Grassroots training (old Grade 8 Certification) after refereeing 4 games within a particular play season, U11/12 and up.; recurring training will be compensated for based on current club financial status and completion of 4 games.  All USSF requirements must be met.  There is a $30 background check fee that is not funded by the club.
